Sleep Sex aka Sexomnia
What is Sleep Sex?
Sleep sex, which is also known as Sexomnia, is a kind of behavioural disorder
whereby people commit sexual acts while they are asleep.
People who suffer from Sexomnia are normally aware of their problem for quite
some time before they try to get help, most often this is due to the fact that
they do not know that it is a medical disorder.
Some sufferers do not get help, one of the reasons that they may not seek any
medical attention could be because they are worried about what people will think
of them. They are either embarrassed, ashamed or even scared to talk about it,
so they would rather suffer the disorder than try to get help. Another reason
could be because they think it might be a waste of time seeing anyone, in the
belief that nothing can be done about it.
The problem is treatable though, with either treatments used for some sleep
breathing problems or with medication, for which you should consult with your
doctor.
Sexomnia is not linked to any one sex, it can actually affect both men and women
and is caused by unusual brain wave patterns while the person is asleep, which
are similar to those found in sleepwalkers.
Because this is a fairly new disorder in terms of being characterised there is
not a lot of information available at the moment, one of the best places for
info, discussions ect is at sleepsex.org.
